Lightning Dog Comic, Page 38

Now that the original lightning dog's awareness has been transferred to three multiuniversally variant dogs' bodies, he begins to explore these other universes...but to what end?

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 37

Well, one semester of grad school down.  It was more demanding of my creativity than I originally thought, so I can only just now continue what I started.  I hope to finish this story before the year ends.  It's good to be back in business!

Lightning Dog

This picture is actually the first time that I ever digitally colored the Lightning Dog character.  Again, I'm still in the throes of moving across country, so probably no comic pages for another week and a half.

Minotwah

Just a random drawing I made of a minotaur.  My comic will be on hold for a least a week as I move across the country.

The Quantum Chameleon and the Lightning Dog observe alternate dogs beginning the same adventure the Lightning Dog has been experiencing.

1000 Page Views!

I really appreciate all of the views and feedback that I've received here and on my DeviantArt account (orbital-primeval.deviantart.com).  Here is an animation I made of the Lightning Dog character!

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 35

Woah!  Alternate Lightning Dog overload!  Which is your favorite?

This "quantum" chameleon allows the dog to observe alternate universes...but to what end?

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 32

Venturing into the crystal cave in the crystal crater on the crystal moon.

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 30

This page is very emotionally stirring for me, actually.  It marks the 3/5ths point in the story.

Down to two aliens...and we're on our way to a moon!  Please keep your arms inside the vehicle at all times.

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 25

Two aliens bit the dust in the ring explosion.  The rest continue the chase in the clouds of the gas planet.

It's been a couple pages since we pulled out and saw the stage and planet surface.

Ancient Ruins Platypus

A platypus made of old rocks, columns, towers, pools, moss, and shrubs.

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 15

This is one of my favorite pages of the story so far.  I really like the way the characters are framed within their frames.

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 13

What strange, alien ceremony is this?

I started a deviantArt account a little while ago (orbital-primeval.deviantart.com), and I really like participating in that community. Everyone is so nice to each other in looking at each other's art.  It's pretty cool!

Forest Critter Platypus

I've always enjoyed living in a part of the country where I could see all of these different animals.  Except for the fox, I think...never seen one of those around here.  That'll all change when I move to the desert this summer!  Ah!

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 9

Off to another day of work...but, first, here is the ninth page in the story of the Lightning Dog.

Red Bones Platypus

It's important to appreciate every part of the platypus...even the bones.

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 8

I received some good suggestions from a friend on how to modify my coloring to make the comic more pleasant looking.  Admittedly, my palette is often too primary (this is very evident in some of the later pages).  Once I post the entirety of the story, I may do some coloring changes and upload those fifty pages as an alternative bundle to these original fifty pages.

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 7

I haven't included any dialogue in this story.  There is also a lack of dialogue in the second story that will be posted here after the Lightning Dog ends (the Lightning Dog story goes for 50 pages).  I'm not very good at dialogue, but I'd like to try to incorporate it into a story soon.  Maybe this summer in the as yet unnamed third story.

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 6

I don't draw as many landscapes as I do characters, but, every time I look at this page, I feel like I successfully got the alien structure to appear colossal, which is what I wanted.

As a side note, I listed this page in The Webcomic List, which has appeared to direct some traffic here (and helped me find some cool comics / artists)!  Once I get more of an archive going, I think I will put my work out in some other places around the web.

However you found this place, thanks for checking it out!

Volcano Platypus

I'll be the first person to acknowledge that I probably like platypus a little too much.  I just think they're so cool!

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 4

It usually takes me a couple of hours to put together a Lightning Dog page.  I draw everything by hand with a light pencil, and then I go over it with a thin sharpie.  Next, I scan it, and fill in my lines with Photoshop.  I do a little bit of shading, but nothing fancy.  I just go over certain areas with one quarter opaque black to make the color a little darker.  My fingers always really hurt after I do a page, because I just use the touchpad instead of a mouse or tablet.

Geode Platypus

Here's a variation on the standard platypus outline I like to sketch a lot.  This one is filled with geodes!

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 3

OK, last post for now.  I hope that you check in from time to time, and I'd love to hear what you think about the projects I'll be posting.  Enjoy the third page of the Lightning Dog comic!

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 2

I don't intend on posting four times daily, but I wanted to give this Orbital / Primeval a good first day.  Enjoy page 2 of the Lightning Dog comic!

Lightning Dog Comic, Page 1

One of the things I will regularly post on here (at least for a while) are pages from the Lightning Dog comic I've been drawing since August, 2011.  It's a fifty-page comic that I'm always working on, and I hope you like it!

You are about to begin reading Nathan David Smith's new blog, Orbital / Primeval.

Hey!

I'll be updating this blog regularly with the stuff that I draw!  I hope you enjoy what I draw, because, if you don't, you won't enjoy looking at this blog.

Peace!
